CloudSide began as an experiment in helping a few, and evolved into a full-service, tech-driven accounting firm

Since my early days in ecommerce—dating back to 2012—I’ve made it a habit to stay connected with the industry by attending conferences, masterminds, and networking events. Over time, I built strong relationships with fellow ecommerce entrepreneurs, many of whom I’ve stayed in touch with through private forums and online communities.

Because people knew I was also a CPA, I’d often get messages asking for help—mostly around compliance and financial operations. Ecommerce, especially at a global scale, comes with a level of complexity that most traditional local accountants aren’t trained to handle, especially as it relates to cross border tax compliance.

Some began asking if they could work with my bookkeeper—the one I had personally trained to handle all the unique challenges of ecommerce accounting. The first person was so happy with the results that they publicly thanked me in one of our forums, which led to more people reaching out. I started outsourcing my bookkeeper’s services to more forum members, and the feedback was overwhelmingly positive. I had already built internal systems, KPI tracking tools, and workflows to manage these clients effectively. Everything was run in the cloud using QuickBooks Online, and that’s when it clicked—I could turn this into a full-service virtual CPA firm built for modern business owners. 

As I explored the idea further,, I was amazed at how much the accounting industry had evolved. With cloud-based platforms like QuickBooks Online and Xero, along with apps that automate receipt tracking and streamline financial workflows using tools like Zapier or Make, it was clear that accounting had entered the digital age. I saw strong parallels between running a digital ecommerce business and building a modern, cloud-based accounting firm—both rely on smart systems, automation, and efficient processes to scale. It was a model I knew I could execute—and improve.

What started off as bookkeeping exclusively for ecommerce sellers, eventually morphed into serving other industries as we developed the same processes to support other businesses. 

Today, I operate both my ecommerce business as well as CloudSide Accounting which I feel gives me a unique perspective that most accountants cannot offer. I apply real life business experience into what I think my clients would want from an accounting firm.
